We pride ourselves on having a highly educated staff, many of whom have achieved college degrees such as a Bachelors of Architecture or Engineering from NJIT, NYIT, Philadelphia University, and Stony Brook. We also have those with a BS in Business Management from Saint Francis College and a MS in Design from UMass. These degrees are in addition to the rigorous and continual training each associate participates in - whether it may be within the office or in outside seminars.
Between the two of them, partners Brian Gillen & Sertac Konuk have many years of architecture experience to lead Code, LLC. After graduating New Jersey Institute of Technology, Brian joined an architecture firm and eventually got his architecture license in 1995. Meanwhile in Turkey, Sertac graduated from Dokuz Eylül University in 1995 with his BA in Architecture, and shortly after earned his architect license in 1996. After seven years of architecture experience in Turkey, Sertac moved half-way across the globe to New York in 2003. And in early 2000s, Brian bought the company that would be Code, LLC with a former partner, bringing Sertac on as a Project Supervisor in 2004 and ascending to partner in 2012. During that time period, Sertac and Brian have collaborated and developed CODE LLC into one of the best boutique code consulting firms of the city.
Finance Department Manager
After graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. from Kean University, Joe spent several years working in the fitness industry—managing Wellness Centers and training people ranging from beginners to professional athletes. In 2012, he changed career paths and began working at Code, where he has been utilized across every department. Since 2015, he’s remained fully within the Finance Department as the company’s Bookkeeper, and after three years, was promoted to Finance Department Manager. In his spare time, Joe is likely playing on one of the baseball fields of his native Staten Island.
Pallavi Desai, EIT
Project Management Team Supervisor
Pallavi, taking inspiration from her late Father's (A revered Commissioner and MEP Engineer for NYC’s HRA) footsteps, began her engineering career by working in structural design and special inspections for a couple of years. After gaining vital experience in those fields, she joined CODE in 2014 as a Project Supervisor, and after multiple promotions, she now leads the Project Management Department. Pallavi’s specialty lies in utilizing her knowledge in building code, zoning, and construction management to obtain approvals for new buildings and high rises. With a keen eye for detail and a can-do attitude, she has successfully navigated complex situations for various large scale projects, and is one of our team members who plays an integral role to the development of the company. Never one to stop learning, she has obtained her Masters in Construction Management and an MBA in Project Engineering (expected Fall 2018) from the Stevens Institute of Technology, and is an active member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honors Society. Her next task is to pass her PE Exam to be a licensed Professional Engineer in Architectural Engineering.
In 2010, Rufus came to Code as a Project Supervisor after getting his degree in Architecture from NJIT in 2007. Prior to starting at CODE, he was an experienced manager in various construction businesses, of which, he relies on those experiences to be a successful project manager today alongside a knowledgeable team. Throughout his career at Rufus has worked on hundreds of large and complex projects.
Project Completion Team Supervisor
Kimberly is a NYC native who began her career as an administrative professional for 10 years. She entered CODE in 2014, seeking a career change that was more challenging, in which she was hired as a Project Completion Supervisor. While employed full time, she attended HBC, Medgar Evers in Brooklyn, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with her B.S. in Business Management. Over the years, Kimberly has shown exceptional growth and development and has gone from managing the completion of small alterations to managing high-rise alteration type 1 and new building projects and was promoted to Project Completion Director. Along with her new role, she is now in the process of selecting a school to obtain her Masters in Construction Management.
Arthur is the longest standing employee at CODE – beginning his employment in 2003, as an Expeditor. Arthur has watched the firm grow and taken on multiple key positions within CODE, including Project Supervisor and Permit Supervisor. In 2017, he transitioned to Field Supervisor, where he contributes with his years of experience, by navigating through the operational procedures of the Buildings Department with all of CODE’s projects. He is a valuable resource for the Field Team and all CODE employees.
Certified Asbestos Investigator
A couple of years after graduating from West Virginia University, Will joined Code in 2014 as an Inspector. Prior to working here, he spent 2 summers interning at a construction company in New York City, where he first experienced site walkthroughs and was exposed to different aspects of the industry that help him become a successful Inspector today. In addition to his responsibilities with CO/PA walkthroughs, Will is also a New York State certified Asbestos Inspector who conducts dozens of inspection each year for our clients.
Certified Asbestos Investigator
Jonathan was hired as an Inspector in 2014, a few months after he moved to New York City from North Carolina. Originally working in different industries for a few years, he is now working towards completing his Masters in Construction Management, which contributes to outstanding career as an Inspector. On top of his inspection work, Jonathan provides asbestos testing and PA/CO inspections at Code.
